Some of the most innovative and creative minds in football led the charge in the Spring of 2018. Former NFL running back and ESPN analyst Merril Hoge and former Pittsburg Steelers cornerback, Solomon Wilcots, will serve as head coaches for YCF’s second series. They will lead an experienced staff comprised of former NFL and NCAA coordinators and position coaches.

Merril Hoge

Head Coach

Former NFL running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Bears and spent 21 years as an analyst for a variety of ESPN programs including NFL Live, NFL Matchup, NFL PrimeTime and SportsCenter.

Hoge will be responsible for hiring additional coaching staff, developing a roster of quality professional football players, executing training camp and practices and coaching one of the two YCF professional football teams.

Solomon Wilcots

Head Coach

Solomon played four seasons in Cincinnati, with the Bengals (1987-1990), where he currently resides, one with the Vikings (1991) and finished his six-year career with the Steelers (1992). He was drafted in 1987 as an 8th-round pick after starting for two years as a Cornerback for his university in Boulder. While attending school in Colorado, he majored in English literature, and studied in the school of Journalism. He also helped lead a program turnaround which lead the team to two consecutive bowl game appearances.

Wilcots will be responsible for hiring additional coaching staff, developing a roster of quality professional football players, executing training camp and practices and coaching one of the two professional YCF teams.

Kurt Schottenheimer

Defensive Coordinator

40 years of NFL and college coaching experience including Defensive Coordinator positions with Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins and Detroit Lions and Defensive Backs positions with Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Rams.

Schottenheimer is responsible for developing and installing the defensive game plan, developing the plans for player tryouts, practices and games and calling the defense for one of the two YCF professional football teams.

Tom Rossley

Offensive Coordinator & QB Coach

34 years of NFL and college coaching experience with teams including Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, Kansas City Chiefs and Texas A&M and served as the Head Coach at Southern Methodist University from 1991-1996. Rossley has coached many all-pro NFL QBs including Warren Moon, Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers and Matt Hasselbeck.

Rossley is responsible for coaching the Quarterbacks and developing and installing the offensive game plan for one of the two YCF professional football teams.

Don Clemons

Defensive Assistant

35 years of coaching experience including 27 years with the Detroit Lions starting in 1985, Clemons has coached every defensive position at the NFL level.

Clemons is responsible for overseeing the coaching of each defensive position and assisting in installing the defensive game plan.


John Marshall

Linebackers Coach

John Marshall is a former American Football coach. Her formerly served as the defensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders from 2009-2010. Marshall, a coaching veteran of over 40 years, is mostly associated with coaching linebackers.

Bert Hill

Defensive Line Coach

30 years coaching experience in NFL and major college football, including seven years as the Defensive Line Coach at SMU and 14 years as Assistant Coach and Strength & Conditioning Coach for NFL teams including Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins. Hill also served as Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for Texas A&M University and The Ohio State University.

Hill is responsible for coaching the Defensive Line position.

Jonas Jackson

Defensive Line Coach

15 years of coaching experience including 2 years as a Head Coach for West Virginia Wesleyan (NCAA DII) and 11 years as a defensive position coach. Jonas was previously the Defensive Line and Special Teams Coach at Savannah State (NCAA FCS).

Jackson is responsible for coaching the Defensive Line position.

Eric Thomas

Defensive Backs Coach

Eric Thomas played cornerback for nine seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets and Denver Broncos. He went to the Pro Bowl after the 1988 season. Eric attended Tulane University.

Billy Parker

Defensive Backs Coach

In 2017, Bill Parker started his coaching career with the Montreal Alouettes as a defensive assistant coach, working closely with the defensive backs.

Andre Barboza

QB Coach

Barboza has been coaching QBs, Wide Receivers and Tight Ends since graduating from Youngstown State in 2012. Barboza has coached at Fordham, Sacred Heart, Stonehill and Slippery Rock University.

Johnnie Mitchell

Wide Receiver / Tight End Coach

Johnnie Mitchell is a former NFL tight end / halfback / special teams for the New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints after he was selected in the 1st round of the NFL Draft by the Jets in 1992 out of Nebraska. Mitchell played and coached for the Toronto Argonauts CFL world championship winning team in 2004 and has since coached football around the world, including England, France and Brazil.

Robert Ford

Wide Receiver/Tight End Coach

40 years of NFL and college coaching experience including as Tight Ends Coach for the Dallas Cowboys from 1991-1998 where Mr. Ford won 3 Super Bowls. Mr. Ford held Receiver Coach and other positions for the Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals, Oakland Raiders, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Mississippi State.

Ford is responsible for coaching the Wide Receivers and Tight Ends.

Ray Sherman

Running Backs Coach

Ray Sherman is an American football coach with more than four decades of experience coaching at the college and professional levels, and who last served as the wide receivers coach of the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League.

Jerald Ingram

Running Backs Coach

An America football coach and former player. He played football at the fullback position for the University of Michigan from 1979 to 1981 and later served as the running backs coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars (1995-2003) and New York Giants (2004-2013) of the National Football League (NFL).

Bill Meyers

Offensive Line Coach

Bill Meyers has 28 years of NFL and college coaching experience as an offensive line and TE coach. His college experience includes stints at Notre Dame, Pitt, Missouri and Cal. He served as the offensive coordinator at Missouri and Pitt. His NFL career entailed coaching the offensive line for the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers, L.A. and Oakland Raiders, Seattle Seahawks, and finishing his career with the New Orleans Saints.

John Jackson

Offensive Line Coach

John Jackson is a proud graduate of Woodward High School Class of 83. John lettered in three sports his senior year, track, wrestling and football. He earned a football scholarship to Eastern Kentucky University where he was named two times All-Ohio Valley Conference first team and played on three Ohio Valley Conference Championship teams. John is a member of the Eastern Kentucky University Hall of Fame and a member of the All-Century team. John received a bachelor of science degree in police administration in 1988. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 10th round and the 252nd pick in the 1988 draft. John was in Pittsburgh for 10 years where he started nine years and was All-Pro two times. John played in 13 playoff games and started in Super Bowl XXX. He also played in San Diego for two years and Cincinnati for two years. Winning the Ed block courage award in 2000.

John played in 200 games becoming the 171st person in the National Football League to play 200 or more games.  John retired in 2003 as a Pittsburgh Steeler. In 2009, John was inducted in to the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame. John was involved in sports management for over 10 years where he was involved in recruiting, training, and mentor athletes for the NFL and NBA. He was also involved in a business development role for three years with an automotive detailing a group.  John still involved in sports as he mentors Coaches, youth and professional athletes. He is avid golfer, does many of the celebrity golf event in Cincinnati and different cities throughout the United States.He lives in Cincinnati with his wife Tina ( Sons Josh and Jordan, Nephew Dominic, Niece Denishsa)

Scott Peters

Offensive Line Coach

Scott Peters is a former NFL offensive lineman, entrepreneur, and the Founder of Tip of the Spear, a program that seeks through the proprietary technique and and training to assist players in avoiding concussions and other serious football-related injuries while at the same time improves performance.

Mike Hollis

Kicking Coach

Former placekicked in the National Football League. He spent most of his nine-year professional career with the Jacksonville Jaguars kicking for the team from 1995-2001 and setting several team records.
