If you’re going to call plays in a football game – whether virtually on Madden or live with Your Call Football – you want to know that you have players you can depend upon. As players continue signing for YCF’s upcoming series, which begins February 25, there’s a clear trend occurring: high-quality players who’ve had cups of coffee with NFL teams. In other words, the types of players who should make for great games and opportunities in calling plays.

YCF’s three newest signings – defensive tackle Toby Johnson, wide receiver K.J. Maye, and linebacker Willie Mays – all have spent time on offseason or practice squad rosters in recent years. In fact, Maye and Mays, who both played in YCF’s 2018 series, recently were part of the two teams who will go head-to-head this weekend in the Super Bowl.

Maye was signed by the New England Patriots during each of the last two training camps before getting waived prior to the regular season. Mays signed with the Los Angeles Rams during the 2017 training camp.

Following is a little more about YCF’s most recent signings.

Johnson, who once was the top-ranked junior college recruit in the country before two seasons at the University of Georgia, played for the Minnesota Vikings in 2015 and 2016. The 6-foot-4, 310-pound defensive tackle also has been on rosters of the Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers, and Detroit Lions.

Maye returns from the 2018 series, during which he was a big offensive weapon. The 5-foot-10 receiver from Mobile, Ala., caught 73 passes during his senior season at Minnesota. Although he went undrafted, he’s been on offseason or practice squads for the New York Giants, Tennessee Titans, and New England Patriots.

Mays arguably was the most impactful defensive players in YCF’s 2018 series. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound defensive linebacker from Escondido, Calif., played at collegiately at Tiffin University before signing a training camp contract with the Rams.
